“It angers me that the xenophobes in this country have managed to make the displaying of the flag a mark of their brand of Patriotism. It’s a Patriotism that is based on the false notion of our power. It’s not our military, nor our economy, nor our technological innovations. The flag is a symbol for the ideas of the United States, not its greatness. It also angers me that the left in America has ceded the Flag to the conservatives, to be twisted into a fairy tail about America the ass kicker. The left needs to reclaim this symbol and the ideas it stands for, instead of regarding flag waving as mindless patriotism.”
